I- Important Information

  • The deadline for abstract submission is:  08/02/2023
  • All submissions should be made in English and only through the official Congress website.
  • The submitted abstract should be original, i.e., not accepted for publication prior to the time of submitting the abstract to LATS congress.
  • If the material/results enclosed in the abstract submitted has been presented as an oral presentation at another LATS meeting, the abstract will not be considered for oral presentation. Authors are strongly counseled to add new data to the abstract.
  • The first author of the abstract should submit the abstract and indicate the modality for the abstract presentation, i.e., poster, oral presentation, or oral communication.
  • The oral presentation is reserved to those abstracts whose first author is the submitter and fulfill all criteria to compete for the LATS Young Investigator Award (case reports are ineligible).   
  • The oral communications are reserved for the presentation of research in the thyroid field with significant impact. In this category, it is accepted studies performed in collaboration with non-Latin American Countries and abstracts that were accepted for publication prior to the time of submitting the abstract to LATS congress. Submission does not guarantee acceptance for oral communication (case reports are ineligible).
  • The Scientific Committee reserves the right to decide on the form of presentation, poster or oral (oral presentation or oral communications). The decision of the Scientific Committee on the presentation modality is considered final and conclusive and cannot be questioned.
  • If your abstract is accepted for oral presentation, you will be asked to present your work in-person during the LATS meeting.  If you did not present your work, it will be disqualified. 
  • The submission of an abstract as poster constitutes a commitment by the authors to present their abstract at the congress once accepted.  If this is not possible, another previously registered author can present the study if he/she has registered for the event.
  • Each author, by submitting an abstract, should reassur his/her personal contribution to the research.
  • By submitting the abstracts, the authors commit themselves to complying with the laws and ethical standards that govern research with humans and animals, including the approval of the Research Ethics Committees and Committees on Animal Clinical Research and Ethics.
  • For an abstract to be included in the final scientific program, it is mandatory for the presenting author to register for the congress as soon as the notification of abstract acceptance
  • Abstracts should meet international ethical standards.
  • If you want to withdraw an abstract, please contact the congress secretariat through Help Desk menu before February 8th, 2023.
  • To receive the certificate for the abstract presented as poster, one of the listed authors must be registered and have presented the abstract at the event.
  • To receive the certificate for the abstract presented as oral presentation, the first author, whose must be the submitter, should present the study at the congress. 


II - Instructions for abstract submission

1) The submitter/presenter must be included in the list of authors.

2) Please register for the event through the website. There are no fees at the time of registration; payments can be made after the abstract´s acceptance has been confirmed. Coauthors registering at the congress should not send an abstract that has already been registered by one of the authors.

2) Log in to the restricted area (MY LOGIN) using the username and password that you have chosen for registration. New menus will be displayed.

3) Click on “My Abstracts” menu.

4) Follow the instructions on the screen to access the abstract submission form. Before final submission, all form fields should be completed in the online form

5) Before submitting the abstract, please review it carefully. No corrections are possible after the submission.

6) Choose the right area for your abstract – Basic or Clinical.  

7) Choose the type of presentation – Oral Presentation, Poster Presentation or Oral communication.

*Oral presentations means that you are submitting your abstract to compete for the LATS Young Investigator Award. The scientific committee will announce the six abstracts in each category (basic or clinical) that were selected for oral presentation during the LATS congress.

*Oral communications are reserved for original and important thyroid related works that did not meet the criteria for compete the LATS Young Investigator Award. Studies that WERE NOT performed integrally in Latin American Countries are strongly encouraged to submit to this category.  In this modality you are not  competing for the LATS Young Investigation Award.

8) After submitting your abstracts, click on "Log out".

9) After submitting the abstract, you will receive an email confirming you submitted the abstract and information provided.

10) If you do not receive the automatic email acknowledging the submission on the same day, the abstract may not have been sent correctly. In this case, please contact Help Desk menu to report the problem. Remember to check your SPAM box before doing so.

11) If the information provided is not correct, please contact the Help desk to report the problem.

12) To access the event website again, just log in with your username and password on the MY ACCOUNT menu. If you do not remember your login data, use the “forgot your password?” option at the top of the page.

IV - Guidelines for abstract preparation

  1. The title should be concise and reflect the study to be presented. The length of the title must be limited to 250 characters.
  2. The text of the abstract should not exceed 3000 characters including spaces (title, authorship and affiliation are not included).
  3. The content of the abstract should be associated with the topic selected.
  4. There is no limit to the number of abstracts to be submitted by an author.
  5. Up to 15 authors can be included per abstract. Please list the authors in the desired order.
  6. The abstract should be structured objectively and concisely, providing essential information under each heading.  Introduction, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
  7. Case reports should be structured as follows: Case Presentation, Discussion, and Final Comments. Considering that case reports represent an important contribution to the exchange of experience between professionals, the Scientific Committee recommends only sending reports of common cases with atypical evolution or rare cases of major relevance. Case reports without clear originality and relevance justifying their presentation will not be accepted.
  8. Papers limited to literature review will not be accepted.
  9. The institution or institutions where the research was conducted, as well as the names of the authors, should NOT be mentioned in the body of the text.
  10. The use of graphs or tables will not be allowed in the submission of abstracts, although such resources may be used when formatting the presentations.
  11. Bibliographic references should not be included.
  12. Results based on statements such as "results will be presented" and "data will be analyzed" will not be considered. These should be explained as clearly as possible, and the conclusions should be based on the data presented. In the case of an ongoing study, for example, the authors should present at least the preliminary results. 
  13. The authors should refrain from using abbreviations. If used, it should be defined.


V - Instructions for Approved Abstracts

ORAL PRESENTATION - LATS Young Investigator Award 2023

Therefore, below you may find some guidelines for your participation:

  • The study must be presented in 10 (ten) minutes followed by 5 (five) minutes of discussion, on the day and time stipulated in the definitive Scientific Program of the Congress. To keep to our tight schedule please keep to the timings in the agenda (time will be considered in the evaluation of the work)
  • The presentation must be created in or converted to Microsoft PowerPoint (acceptable formats PowerPoint (.ppt or .pptx)) and the presenter must attend the Mídia Desk/ VIP Room 2 hours in advance to save the file in the system.

  • Confirm a font size of at least 24 points for body text and 36–40 points for headings.
  • Light colored text on a dark background is advised. Avoid using red or green.
  • Please note that the official conference language is English, Spanish, or Portuguese and we therefore require that presentations are prepared in English and delivered in either English, Spanish or Portuguese
  •  Oral Presentations will be evaluated by at least two members designated by the Scientific Committee and moderated by expert in the field.
  • The judgments of Oral presentations (LATS Award) will be made according to criteria defined by the scientific committee (each criterion is evaluated specifically and separately).   
  • Information about the day and time of the presentation will be available in the restricted area of the author responsible for the submission through the menu [MY ABSTRACTS] and previously stipulated in the scientific program of the congress.
  • The Organizing Committee of the Congress will not be responsible for the costs of registration, transportation, lodging, or other costs generated for the presentation of papers.
  • Papers must be presented at a set date and time, and no changes are allowed.
  • If the authors don’t attend the event, the presentation will be canceled, and the certificate will not be issued.

VI – Publication

All approved abstracts will be published electronically in The Archives of Endocrinology and Metabolism – AE&M –the official journal of the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism – SBEM. 



VII - Certificates

After the congress, the certificates of the abstracts approved for presentation will be made available to the author responsible for the submission on the congress website (conditional on his/her attendance at the event). To print or download the PDF file, you must access the "Certificates" menu, located on the congress homepage, enter the registered email, and fill in the "Satisfaction Survey."

 

  • Important notice: the certificates will not be sent directly by email.
  • A certificate will be issued with the title of the abstract, in the approved modality, and the name of all authors registered at the time of submission.
  • The second certificate will be issued with the title of the abstract, the approved modality, and the name of the presenter.
  • At least one of the authors must be registered and have attended the event to receive the certificate later.


VIII - LATS Young Investigator Award 2023

 

  1. The prestigious LATS Young Investigator Award are assigned to two outstanding young LATS members (< 40 years of age) who are first authors of the abstract submitted to the LATS congress. The categories under which the prizes will be given are (1) clinical research and (2) basic research. Six finalists of each category will be selected from all applications. They will present their work at the oral presentations section at the LATS Meeting. The selected works will evaluate a jury nominated by the Scientific Committee. The winner will be announced at the last day of the congress.

 

Eligibility:

The applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for LATS Young Investigator Award 2023:

  1. Be the first author of the abstract submitted to LATS congress.
  2. Be a member of the LATS under the age of 40 years of age by the date of the event
  3. The work must be presented during the LATS 2023 Congress.
  4. The work presented must have been completely performed in a Latin American country.
  5. All submissions should be made in English and only through the official Congress website.
  6. The submitter has never received the LATS young investigator award.
